the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (which

ended September 1, 2004) offers scholarship on

the union of nanotechnology and culture. Hayles

Angeles) introduces nanotechnology and

nanoscience as involving materials on a scale

where single atoms/molecules are manipulated.

Transdisciplinary scholars address issues

relating to the fuzzy boundary between the

mechanical and biological aspects of the micro-

events represented by these images, and how

museums exhibit them. Science fiction and other

media are mined for metaphors to treat these new

hybrid realities.
