The prototype Hornet was rolled out at the McDonnell Douglas St Louis' factory in September 1978 and quickly impressed the test pilots. This book offers a pictorial record of the F-18 Hornet which excels in both the air-to-air and air-to-ground role.
There is no doubt that the Hornet is an exceptional aircraft which excels in both the air - air and air - ground role, and I have yet to meet a Hornet pilot who wants to fly any other type of aircraft. No disrespect to Northrop, but perhaps it was inevitable that the Hornet was going to be a success, after all, it came from the same stable as the F-4 Phantom and F-15 Eagle. By the end of 1990 almost 1,000 Hornets had been delivered and there is no doubt that the type will become a legend amongst warplanes.
